What Vaccines Does Your Dog Need For Doggy Daycare?

Jun 11, 2025

At Hounds Town, we believe that all dogs deserve to play with their pack. However, before they jump right into doggy daycare, it’s important to make sure they’re protected. Just like with humans, vaccines help keep every dog safe, healthy, and happy. Curious about our vaccine policy? Here’s what you need to know:

Why Are Vaccines Required for Doggy Daycare?

If you’re curious why dog daycare vaccine requirements are necessary, you’re not the first to ask. Vaccines protect your dog from contagious diseases, some of which can be serious or even fatal, especially if your pup has any preexisting health conditions. While socialization is a key part of your dog’s health, so is their immune system. Dog daycare environments can increase exposure risk because of group play, which is why Hounds Town requires proof of your dog’s vaccination to ensure a safe, healthy space for every dog.

Hounds Town’s Vaccine Policy

What are the vaccines required for dog daycare? We ask for proof of these three vaccinations:

Distemper (DHLPP):

This vaccine covers several of the most common diseases in dogs: Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These vaccines are typically given as a series of shots during puppyhood, with boosters throughout your dog’s life.

Rabies:

Since rabies is deadly and can be transmitted to humans, the rabies vaccine is legally required for dogs in most states. Luckily, it’s easily preventable! Pets usually get their first rabies shot around 12–16 weeks of age, with boosters every 1–3 years—which is why we require up-to-date rabies vaccination for all pack members.

Bordetella (Kennel Cough):

Kennel cough is one of the most common contagious illnesses that your dog might get when around groups of dogs, which is why vaccinating them against it is important. Bordetella vaccines are usually given annually or every six months, depending on your vet’s recommendation, and are especially important for dogs who regularly attend doggy daycare.

Other Ways to Prepare Your Dog for Daycare

Vaccines aren’t the only thing to check off your dog daycare checklist before sending them to Hounds Town! Here are a few other ways to prepare your dog for daycare:

  • If your dog is staying overnight, be sure to bring their own food for their stay in order to prevent stomach issues!
  • If your dog is feeling sick, keep them home and send them to Hounds Town when they’re back on their paws.
  • Talk to your vet about timing for your dog’s vaccine boosters to ensure that they’re up to date before their daycare experience.

We want every pup to be healthy—both through socialization and vaccination. By staying up to date on these essential vaccines, your dog can enjoy all the social, physical, and mental benefits of daycare in a natural pack environment at your local Hounds Town.
